Four Academics from Faculty of Law UII Invited by JIPII to Attend IP Collegium Tokyo 2026
Tokyo (13–14 February 2026). Four academics from the Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), once again received an invitation from the Japan Institute for Promoting Invention & Innovation (JIPII) to attend an international-scale academic event. The event was the Meeting and Seminar of “IP Collegium” Tokyo. The UII Faculty of Law academics invited by JIPII to the IP Collegium Tokyo 2026 were: Prof. Dr. Budi Agus Riswandi, S.H., M.Hum.; Prof. Nandang Sutrisno, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., Ph.D.; Dodik Setiyawan Nurheriyanto, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., Ph.D.; and Galih Ramadhan, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M.
The IP Collegium Tokyo 2026 was organized by JIPII Japan under the program Meeting and Seminar of IP Collegium, held over two days, on 12–13 February 2026 in Tokyo. On the first day, a meeting on “Application of AI in the Acquisition and Utilization of IPRs” was conducted. This session was attended by intellectual property experts (both academics and practitioners) from several countries, including Japan, India, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Egypt, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Singapore. The participants delivered presentations and engaged in discussions on the development of AI regulations and intellectual property rights in their respective countries.

On the second day, a seminar on “How can Japanese environmental technologies be effectively applied to real environmental challenges around the world” was held. During this session, various best practices in the development of environmental inventions were presented by speakers from several leading companies in Japan, including inventors who have successfully implemented environmental inventions, particularly in the field of water treatment technology.
Through this event, the academics of the Faculty of Law UII gained a great deal of valuable information and insights into the development of AI law in various countries, as well as best practices related to the application of patented inventions that contribute to improving access to water for communities at the global level.
In this meeting, Prof. Budi Agus Riswandi, representing one of the UII Faculty of Law academics in the field of intellectual property, expressed his view that forums such as IP Collegium Tokyo can serve as a good example of how intellectual property is studied across countries and, at the same time, as a platform to demonstrate that IP offers concrete best practices for society at large, including the global environment. Therefore, he hopes that Indonesia, which is currently actively developing downstreaming programs in science and technology, can also establish similar forums so that the goal of promoting science and technology for the benefit of society can be realized in a tangible way. This includes how intellectual property can truly function as a strategic tool in supporting the downstreaming process of science and technology.
