The 2nd Postgraduate International Conference on Law, Technology & Society

On Monday, 24 November 2025, the Faculty of Law of the Universitas Islam Indonesia held the 2nd Postgraduate International Conference on Law, Technology & Society (The 2nd Postgraduate ICLTS). This year’s conference carried the overarching theme “Law, Globalization, and Human Rights.” The event conducted as a collaboration between the Faculty of Law of Universitas Islam Indonesia, the Faculty of Law Universitas Kuningan, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, and Dicle University Turkiye. The conference took place at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia and also being streamed live from Zoom and YouTube. Rahadian Suwartono, the Chairman of the Committee of the 2nd Postgraduate ICLTS, mentioning the main purpose of the event was for enrich academic forum and a dissemination forum for all participants.
The 2nd Postgraduate ICLTS consist of three sessions: Plenary Session; Presentation Session; and Gala Dinner/Closing Session. The 2nd Postgraduate ICLTS aims to serve as a platform for academics, researchers, and legal practitioners to engage in dialogue, share insights, and produce relevant recommendations to address contemporary legal challenges. This International Conference is a mutually joint agenda among all the Postgraduate Study Programs at the Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia, hence becoming an opportunity for academic sharing among Masters and Doctoral students. However, professional researchers and lecturers are likewise welcome to participate.
The first session was an international seminar with a keynote speech and sharing of experience from four distinguished speakers from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. The session opened with a keynote speech delivered by Thomas Trikasih Lembong, Former Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia (2015–2016), followed by presentations from Prof. Abu Bakar bin Munir (Professor of Law and Expert in Cyber Law and Data Protection Law, Universiti Malaya) on “Personal Data Protection, Cyber Law, and Its Contemporary Challenges”; Tamalin Bolus (Regional Legal Advisor at the ICRC, Switzerland) on “International Humanitarian Law and Contemporary Challenges”; Christopher Michael Cason, JD. (Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia) on “Foreign Direct Investment: Law and Contemporary Challenges”; and Prof. Aurelia Colombi Ciacchi (Professor of Law and Governance at the University of Groningen) on “Human Rights Impact Assessments in the Digital Revolution and Globalisation.”

The second session featured research presentations by selected participants. The session was attended by more than 100 participants, both on-site and online. Participants were divided into nine chambers, each focusing on a specific theme: Technology, Business, and Government on Law and Globalization; Constitutionalism, Environmental Law, and Globalization; Criminal, Prophetic Law, and Human Rights; Government, International Law, and Globalization; Criminal Law and Human Rights; Islamic and Family Law; Environmental Crisis and Contemporary Challenges; Law, Technology, and Human Rights on Globalization; and Islamic, Prophetic, and International Law on Globalization. The presentation session followed by 65 papers and more than 200 presenters all around the globe, from Indonesia, Nigeria, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Turkiye.
The series of events of the 2nd Postgraduate ICLTS concluded with a Farewell Ceremony and Gala Dinner as the closing session. The agenda ran smoothly, and the organizers hope that this event can serve as a platform for dialogue among academics, practitioners, and researchers, while also contributing to addressing contemporary legal challenges.
