Public Lecture Immigration Legal Challenges in the Information Technology Era
At the end of April, to be precise on Tuesday 30 April 2024, the Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia collaborated with the TPI Yogyakarta Class 1 Immigration Office to carry out an Immigration Public Lecture. The theme of this public lecture was “Immigration Challenges in Indonesia in the Technology and Information Era”, taking place in the 4th Floor Auditorium, Faculty of Law building, Islamic University of Indonesia. The public lecture started at 08:30 WIB with a resource person, Head of the Immigration Division, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, DIY, Dr. M. Yani Firdaus, S.H., M.H., then moderated by a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Nurmalita Ayuningtyas Harahap, S.H., M.H. The participants who attended this event were 250 active students from the Undergraduate Program at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia.
“The public lecture with the theme “Immigration Challenges in Indonesia in the Age of Technology and Information” is a very interesting and up to date theme, very good to be delivered to students at the UII Faculty of Law, which happens to be my field of science, namely business law and focuses on two areas, namely the field of intellectual property rights and cyber law. Very good, because in the business law study program there are law & internet courses as the basics of law and technology studied at the UII Faculty of Law. Dr Yani Firdaus not only understands theoretically, but also understands practically, especially those related to immigration law and technological developments. With the development of sophisticated information technology, we know it as artificial intelligence. In Indonesia itself there is only the ITE Law and the PDP Law, it could be that in the near future it is possible that we will have to have a law related to artificial intelligence because its impact is already being felt. So I ask you to be able to focus and concentrate and don’t forget to actively ask questions and discuss with Mr. Firdaus while he is here. That was the speech from the Dean of the UII Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Budi Agus Riswandi, SH, Mhum.
Dr. Firdaus in his presentation explained that immigration has created a policy that makes things easier for the public, for example simplifying the requirements for applying for a passport for Hajj and Umrah purposes, making it easier to make an electronic passport, a golden visa policy in order to support the national economy, etc. carried out online & on one platform via the website evisa.imigration.go.id. He also added that during 2024, as many as 11 golden visas have been issued. The Golden Visa itself is a visa given to foreigners with certain qualifications to stay in Indonesia for 5 or 10 years and can be extended with the aim of supporting the national economy.
After the presentation of the general lecture material was complete, the event continued with a speech from the Head of the DIY Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Agung Rektono Seto, S.E., M.Sc., then continued with the signing of the MBKM (Independent Learning Program Independent Campus) Legal Practice collaboration. Signing of the MoA for MBKM Legal Practice between the Faculty of Law and the TPI Yogyakarta Class I Immigration Office, represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Budi Agus Riswandi, SH, Mhum., and Head of the DIY Kemenkumham Regional Office, Agung Rektono Seto, S.E., M.Si and witnessed directly by The Head of Undergraduate Study Program in Law at the Faculty of Law UII, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D. With the MBKM MoA for Legal Practice, it is hoped that it will provide benefits to students of the Faculty of Law, UII, Faculty of Law, UII, and also the Immigration Office.
