Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia Holds Study Skills Event: Equipping New Students to Be Successful Learners
The Faculty of Law at Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) successfully organized a “Study Skill” event for new students of the 2025/2026 academic year. Held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in the Auditorium on the 4th Floor of the UII Faculty of Law Building, the event was attended by approximately 1000 new undergraduate students. This mandatory event provided a comprehensive explanation of the academic system, which is crucial for students’ future success in graduation.
The event commenced with an opening address by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Budi Agus Riswandi, S.H., M.Hum. He emphasized the significant difference between learning processes in high school and university, particularly concerning self-reliance. “Learning at the Faculty of Law UII should not be limited to classroom settings; it can also be interpreted as learning outside the classroom. Therefore, if you don’t attend class, it doesn’t mean you’re not learning, but rather that you must continue learning,” Prof. Budi stated, highlighting the importance of exploring knowledge beyond formal lectures.
The event proceeded with the first material session, delivered by RR. Indah Ria Sulistya Rini, S.Psi. MA., Psychologist, on the theme “Becoming a Successful Student in All Roles.” She elaborated, “Being a university student is different from being in high school because once you’re in college, decisions are entirely in your own hands. Parents’ involvement is minimal; in fact, what you become depends on each of you. New students commonly experience feelings related to enthusiasm, anxiety, uncertainty, joy, loss, loneliness, stress, and even confusion. However, attention must be paid to risky behaviors such as drug abuse, free sex, aggression, and alcohol consumption,” she cautioned, reminding participants to be aware of potential risks.
The session continued with “Library Literacy,” presented by Mr. Teguh Prasetyo Utomo, S.IP. He stressed the vital importance of information literacy in the modern era and the role of libraries as primary resources for supporting learning and research through access to in-depth literature and adequate facilities. “It is crucial in this era that we possess information literacy skills—namely, the ability to reason and think critically to select, sort, and then utilize information for our various needs. As students, why should we go to the library? This is because libraries offer various services to support learning and research activities, in addition to providing access to current research and in-depth literature from quality information resources, as well as comfortable study spaces with adequate facilities.”
Following the material sessions in the Auditorium, the agenda continued in the classrooms of the UII Faculty of Law building with introductory sessions for Academic Advisors (DPA) and DPA Assistants, as well as a presentation on “Tips for Becoming a Successful Learner.” In these classroom sessions, students also received explanations regarding the academic system, including the crucial requirement of a minimum 75% class attendance to be eligible for the Final Semester Examination (UAS). Each new student also received a material kit, which included a soft copy of the academic guidebook, class schedules, the academic calendar (soft copy), information on academic advisors, and university regulations concerning student discipline at UII. The entire series of Study Skill events concluded successfully at 02.30 PM WIB.
