The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Collaborates with the Faculty of Law UII to Organize an FGD & Workshop
The Faculty of Law at Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenlu RI), successfully organized a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and Workshop titled “Evaluation and Planned Amendments to the Foreign Relations Law” and “Foreign Law in the Indonesian Legal System.” This collaborative event took place over two days, from October 14 to 15, 2025, at the Faculty of Law UII.
The activities commenced with an FGD on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in the Erasmus Room. This in-depth discussion featured three permanent lecturers from the Faculty of Law UII as speakers: Prof. Dr. Sefriani, S.H., M.Hum., from the Department of International Law; Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D., from the Department of International Law; and Rahadian D. B. Suwartono, S.H., M.H., from the Department of Constitutional Law. The FGD generated numerous valuable inputs regarding the planned amendments to the Draft Law on Foreign Relations, both from international and national legal perspectives.
On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Sefriani, S.H., M.Hum., conveyed her hopes. “The Draft Law on Foreign Relations has been proposed for discussion and amendment for a very long time. We sincerely hope that with the inclusion of this draft in the 2025 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas), we can have a much more comprehensive legal norm that provides legal certainty, particularly concerning Indonesia’s foreign policy on the international stage,” emphasized Prof. Sefriani.
On the second day, Wednesday, October 15, 2025, a workshop titled “Foreign Law in the Indonesian Legal System” was held in the Stageroom on the west side. The event was attended by approximately 40 students, professors, and academics from the Faculty of Law UII. Two speakers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, namely Kartini Eliva Angel, S.H., and Blandina Pella, S.H., LL.M., provided in-depth presentations and addressed the enthusiastic questions from participants regarding the direction of Indonesian law and foreign relations. Participants also received attractive souvenirs from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The workshop concluded with remarks from the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Law, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D., “We greatly appreciate the harmonious collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Faculty of Law UII. This signifies that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not only focused on Indonesia’s foreign policy but also pays attention to various roles, particularly those related to the legal field. The objective is to ensure that Indonesia’s foreign relations align with the mission outlined in the constitution and applicable international legal norms. We hope this cooperation will lead to more beneficial activities, not only for students but also for all academics of the Faculty of Law UII,” said Mr. Dodik.
The series of events concluded with a friendly gathering and an exchange of souvenirs. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also took the opportunity to visit the museum and Kimpulan Temple located in the Library area of UII, adding to their insights into the rich cultural and historical heritage of UII.
