Learning English doesn’t always have to be in the classroom, a variety of learning activities can be carried out in the form of practical activities outside the classroom, as was done by 33 students of the International Program Faculty of Law (IP FH) of Universitas Islam Indonesia Class of 2023, who visited the Sonobudoyo Museum Yogyakarta on Friday, July 12 2024. This activity is an enhancement activity session which is part of the learning program for the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course in the Even semester of T.A. 2023/2024, taught by Cilacs UII (UII Language Center).

This activity is an opportunity for students to practice their English language skills both orally and in writing. According to the teacher who teaches the EAP course, Ardinia Pravinta, M.Pd., in this activity students are guided by the museum to tour, gain insight into culture, the spread of Islam, traditional arts, and technological modernization, all of which are explained in English. “Students are asked to choose their favorite spot and then explain this in the form of writing and a short video. From the results of this activity, students are expected to be able to express ideas and develop them in the form of writing paragraphs or essays, as well as briefly explaining the contents of the writing results through videos or directly during the discussion,” she said.

Furthermore, Head of Division Marketing of Cilacs UII, Aditya Suci, S.Pt., explained that variations in the Cilacs UII learning model through enhancement activity sessions were carried out so that participants did not feel bored, as well as adding new insights with a fun learning concept approach.

Meanwhile, Head of the Undergraduate Study Program In Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D., said that this program was formed to directly shape the English language skills of IP FH UII students. So it is easy to adapt to the global environment. “The interactive and applicable learning pattern makes students enjoy learning English at IP FH UII,” he explained.

The EAP program itself is part of the English Development Program, which is a series of English language learning for IP FH UII students in semesters 1, 2, 4 and 6 covering basic English learning material up to test preparation such as CEPTTM and IELTSTM. (adt)

The Undergraduate Study Program in Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia (FH UII) initiated a workshop on “Preparing an Assessment System Based on CPL and CPMK FH UII” on Tuesday (14/05) in the 4th Floor Mini Auditorium, Faculty of Law Building, Integrated Campus UII. The agenda was attended directly by all leadership lecturers and management lecturers of departments and study programs within the Faculty of Law UII. This event presented two presenters, namely Annisa Uswatun Khasanah, S.T., M.Sc., a lecturer at the Industrial Engineering Study Program, and Any Juliani, S.T., M.Sc. (Res. Eng.), Ph.D., a lecturer in the Environmental Engineering Study Program.

The Study Program in Law carried out this workshop to introduce information systems related to the curriculum, such as CPL (Graduate Learning Outcomes), CPMK (Course Learning Outcomes), course structure, syllabi, and RPS (Course Specification), where the system has been actualized and well formulated by the Environmental Engineering Study Program and the Industrial Engineering Study Program.

In his remarks, the Head of Undergraduate Study Program in Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D., explained that the assessment should be based on CPL and CPMK, In contrast, implementation at FH UII is still based on the mid-semester examination (UTS), final semester examination (UAS), and assignments. “The urgency of this workshop is due to the demands for accreditation; we were asked to evaluate the achievement of the CPL, which has been determined in the curriculum,” he concluded.

In her presentation, Annisa revealed that the level of lecturer participation in filling in CPMK and CPL achievements in the study program system is a big challenge. “Of course, all lecturers must be willing to fill in this to ensure the continuity of the learning quality system. “Every week or once a month, we hold a study program meeting where each lecturer is required to present the CPL and CPMK to provide feedback on course deficiencies so that they can be improved together,” she explained.

Furthermore, Any Juliani revealed that the focus of measuring CPL and CPMK is that apart from students having to pass according to the CPL we produce, there must also be continuous improvement. “We look for the root cause of the problem of CPL, which is difficult to achieve, then we evaluate it through RPS evaluation meetings at the end of each academic year to find out what the causes are that are difficult to achieve and what recommendations for improvement are made,” explained the Head of the Undergraduate Environmental Engineering Study Program.

In the future, Dodik hopes that developing the infrastructure for the CPL and CPMK assessment filling system can be realized immediately to streamline the accreditation and assessment process for lecturers at Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia.

This activity was carried out online via Online Zoom at 20.00 IWT and was attended by students from the Undergraduate Study Program in Law. On this occasion, the International Guest Lecture activity was accompanied by resource person Dr. Zsolt Hajnal with the theme “Principles and Tendencies of the Private International Law of the European Union”.

Dr. Zsolt Hajnal, in his presentation, explained that the role of the European Union in the regulation of Private International Law is a new identity for defining the European legal order and facilitating the efficient functioning of the internal market. He also added that there is a new purpose for the role of the European Union in Private International Law which is regulated in the European Union, namely “As an internal market which creates the need to increase the predictability of litigation results, certainty of applicable law and freedom of movement in making decisions regarding legal conflict rules in member countries. The States will establish the same national law regardless of the state of the court in which an action is filed.”

The European Union has made significant efforts to create a unified system of private international law, aimed at simplifying legal issues across its member states. The system is built on a foundation of core principles and evolving trends. Private International Law can help determine which country’s law governs the dispute and ensure a fair and efficient resolution. So, with this activity, it is hoped that students from the Undergraduate Study Program in Lawwill be better prepared to handle legal issues with international elements which are a trend in the interconnected and developing world today.

Israeli military troops reportedly attacked hundreds of residents of Gaza, Palestine, Thursday (29/2/2024). At least 112 people were reported killed in the attack. The victims were civilians who were queuing and gathering to wait for food aid in northern Gaza. This incident again increased the number of civilian and child casualties.

Responding to this critical condition, The Undergraduate Study Program in Law Faculty of Law (FH) Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) took the initiative to hold a Public Lecture with the theme “The Role of International Justice for the State of Palestine”. in her presentation, Fatma stated that Israel has colonized Palestine since 1948 until today. Currently Gaza is in the process of a total siege. “There is no electricity, no water, no food, no medicine, no hospitals, no schools, because they burned down more than 350 schools and 80 hospitals,” he said at the start of the lecture. “This is not a religious conflict, this is very clearly genocide. Israel wants to destroy and eliminate the Palestinian people by any means. “You can even see them destroying churches and killing our brothers who embrace Christianity,” said Fatma.

This event then continued with a discussion and question and answer session moderated by the Undergraduate Study Program in Law Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D. “The UN Security Council is the highest institution to make a decision whether this conflict can be ended or not, but one of the UN Security Councils, namely the United States, always uses its veto so that a resolution against Palestine and Israel is impossible,” he explained in answer to one of the students’ questions. Many countries hold a lot of evidence of crimes committed by Israel, one of which is Indonesia. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia then fought for Palestinian independence by providing an Advisory Opinion to the International Court of Justice. “As we know, Palestine has become one of the participants in the Ratification of the International Criminal Court, so that is an important asset for them to take this case to a more serious stage,” said the International Law Lecturer at Faculty of
