On September 29 2023 at the Faculty of Law, University of Debrecen, the Head of the Undergraduate Law Program Study Program and the Dean of Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia participated in the “International Meeting and Conference” which was held directly by the host, Faculty of Law, University of Debrecen (DE AJK). Apart from representatives from Faculty of Law UII, there were also participants from the Faculty of Law, University of Vaasa (Finland), Faculty of Law, University of PIM Blanja Luka (Bosnia Herzegovina), Faculty of Law, University of Oradea (Romania), Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania, Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Ministry of internal affairs of Republic of Srpska, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences University of Arad.

At the beginning of the event, Deputy Dean for International Cooperation Prof. Dr. Fezer Tamas mentioned that “it is very important that this international forum is held with the aim of joint development with all partners of the University of Debrecen law campus. Including for development in the field of research and teaching activities. “Most importantly, the Debrecen campus has an LLM Program and a PhD Program which has been accepting foreign students since 2014 and implementing internationalization programs in the field of teaching.” said Fezer Tamas.

On this occasion, the Head of the Undergraduate Study Program in Law at the Faculty of Law UII, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H, M.H, L.LM, Ph.D explained in his presentation that the presence of the Faculty of Law UII at the forum was a form of continuing the collaboration that had been carried out between UII and the University of Debrecen. In the presentation, Dodik mentioned that “The Faculty of Law UII will also develop this collaboration to see the potential for an exchange program not only for our students but also for lecturers.”. It should be noted that Dodik Setiawan himself was the first graduate of both the LLM Program and PhD Program as well as one of the first students to study in Hungary and graduated with the title Summa Cumlauda.

After the forum took place, the event continued with friendly hospitality and discussions between partners by discussing the potential and visibility of cooperation. Dean of the UII Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Budi Agus Riswandi, S.H., M.H. explained that in this session it was agreed that a lecturer exchange would be held where Faculty of Law UII lecturers would be sent to undertake UII caturdharma activities (research, teaching, community service) for approximately one month at the Faculty of Law, University of Debrecen. “The plan is to hold it in early 2024 in the break between semesters so that not only students get international exposure but also lecturers. “And thank God, many things have been agreed, such as the willingness of Professors at the University of Debrecen to visit FH UII to teach (visiting Professor) under the Erasmus Mobility Program scheme.” he said.

During his visit to Hungary, the Dean of the UII Faculty of Law also met with the leadership of the Indonesian Students’ Association in Debrecen and the Indonesian Students’ Association in Hungary (Central Organization). During the meeting, cooperation was also signed to support academic and non-academic activities.

“Corporate Law and IPR Under the UK Legal System” is the theme presented by General Lecturer Dr. Nadia Naim on Wednesday (26/7), taking place in the East Wing of the Stage Room, 3rd Floor, Faculty of Law (FH) Building, Indonesian Islamic University (UII). The Public Lecture was held as part of the initiation of the Faculty of Law at the Islamic University of Indonesia.

Dr. Nadia Naim works as a Senior Lecturer at Aston Law School, Aston University, Birmingham UK. He is an academic responsible for areas including Intellectual Property Rights, International Intellectual Property Policy and Development, and Islamic Finance and International Trade. “Aston University, especially the Law School, has an orientation towards Business and Trade Law. This is so that our students have an entrepreneurial spirit so that they can create jobs. Moreover, the UK ranks fourth (4th) in the global innovation index which to enter into rank 4 must meet 80 indicators and one of these indicators is the IPR. Apart from that, interest in Islamic Finance Law in England is also increasing,” explained Nadia in her presentation.

The public lecture lasted 90 minutes and was attended by more than 50 students. The speaker was accompanied by the Head of the Law Study Program at the Faculty of Law (FH) at the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), namely Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph. D. together with the Secretary of the Law Study Program International Program FH UII Dr. Aroma Elmina Martha, S.H., M.H. “The World Intellectual Property Organization deals with RIGHTS on an international scale to standardize intellectual protection. IPR legal standards throughout the world refer to the standards set by IPR. The requirements for obtaining a copyright are proving its originality, fulfilling the product category that can be copyrighted, ensuring that the product is tangible. So a person can become a Creator if the results of his creation meet the three categories above. he explained.

The series of Public Lecture events were interspersed with discussion activities between Dr. Nadia with the Dean of FH UII and several high-ranking officials of FH UII discussed the potential for collaboration between FH UII and Aston University in developing international mobility and research activities between the two parties. In addition, Nadia had the opportunity to tour the ancient site of Kimpulan Temple in the middle of the Indonesian Islamic University Library area, and enjoy the beauty of Borobudur Temple, Mount Merapi, Malioboro Street, and shop at Batik Hamzah.

This Public Lecture which was held on Wednesday (26/7) with Dr. Nadia Naim Senior Lecturer from Aston Law School, Aston University, Birmingham UK. Nadia hosted the Public Lecture with the theme “IPR Based on Law and Development Perspective” at the Stage Room, East Wing, Lt. 3 Building of the Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia at 09.00 – 11.00 WIB and was attended by more than 50 students of the Law Master’s Program at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia.

Nadia Naim in her presentation explained that with Intellectual Property Rights, one can monetize and get rewards from innovations made. Talking about IPR means talking about new ideas, then these ideas are implemented into a product. So it is necessary to have IPR to protect the right to create the product and to guarantee confidentiality in the manufacture of a product. “In Europe, every item or work has obtained its IPR by registering the documents that support the manufacture of the item or work, then the work will receive 70 years of IPR which is still valid even after the creator of the work dies,” he said.

Furthermore, Head of the UII Law Faculty of Law Study Program, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D. conveyed in his speech that students need the insertion of comparative knowledge. “Students will not only deal with domestic problems, because now there are many influences from outside. We adopt IPR from the TRIPS Agreement from the Franchise Agreement, we all adopt it from the practices of foreign companies in Indonesia.” he concluded. In this case, Dodik became the moderator and helped with the translation during the General Lecturer.

On Monday, June 26, 2023 at the Law Faculty of the Islamic University of Indonesia, the Undergraduate Study Program in Law successfully held a Public Lecture with the theme “Introduction to Marriage and Family Law.” This Public Lecture presented speakers from a Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia named Neng Djubaedah, S.H., M.H., Ph.D. The resource person gave a presentation directly in front of approximately 150 students, specifically for students taking the Munakahat course.

This public lecture was organized by the Undergraduated Study Program in Law Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia in order to provide students with practical knowledge to understand the dynamics of marriage practices that occur in Indonesia and to know the relevance of the existence of Family Law.

Head of the Undergraduate Study Program in Law, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D, in his remarks said that “Ms. Neng has contributed a lot in formulating the Marriage Law in Indonesia, therefore I hope students can listen well from Mrs. Neng’s presentation.”

Neng Djubaedah , S.H., M.H., Ph.D. as the resource person explained that “The scheme or framework between the context of marriage and family includes the formation of the marriage law. Then after the formation of the law there is implementation of the legal content. Then carry out a legal marriage, for the sake of realizing family status. After the three frameworks have been implemented, a desired value (family) will be realized.”

On Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Stage Room on the 3rd floor, east wing, the Undergraduate Program in Law successfully held a public lecture with the theme “Introduction to Germany Investment Law.” presenting a resource person from a Senior Lawyer practitioner named Philipp Kersting from Germany. The resource person gave a presentation directly in front of approximately 80 students.

Stadium General (Guest Lecturer) was organized by the Undergraduated Study Program in Law Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia in order to provide students with practical knowledge to know how to practice investment science. As for tips and tricks to become a lawyer in the field of investment law properly and wisely.

The Head of the Undergraduate Study Progrem in Law, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D, in his remarks said that “We will be holding a public lecture by presenting one of the Senior Lawyers who is currently one of the existing Lawyers. at Maqdir Ismail and Partner and one of the managers is Mr. Maqdir and he is an alumni of the Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia. With this Public Lecture, I hope students can gain comparative knowledge related to investment practices and also legal knowledge related to investment.”

Philipp Kersting as a guest speaker explained that “Investment law in Germany has its own characteristics compared to investment law in other European Union countries. Germany has high investment compared to other countries because Germany has the EU Single Market Policy, in which the European Union’s policy of freeing trade without any barriers provides an advantage for Germany to obtain capital flows, goods, services and labor from other European Union countries. Investor confidence to invest in Germany. In addition, Germany already has good and comprehensive investment laws to provide guarantees to foreign investors, most of whom are from Luxembourg countries.”

In his presentation, Philipp Kersting also explained how Germany can attract foreign investors, namely: having a stable legal system, protecting intellectual property rights, resolving disputes in a fair and transparent manner, and providing incentives from the government for providing tax policies. The practitioners’ lecture ended with a friendly reception with the Head of the Undergraduate Study Program in Law and a visit to the Kimpulan Temple Museum.

The Law Study Program for the Undergraduate Program in collaboration with the Deputy Dean for Religion, Student Affairs, and Alumni of the Faculty of Law, the Islamic University of Indonesia held a debriefing activity for the alumni of the Law Study Program for the Undergraduate Law Program at the UII Faculty of Law. This activity was attended by approximately 73 alumni graduates, who will later be graduated in the 5th period of UII Graduation for the 2022-2023 Academic Year. This time the alumni debriefing was attended by 3 speakers. The first resource person was Dr. Busyo Muqoddas, S.H., M.Hum., lecturer at the Faculty of Law of UII who is also an alumnus of the Law Study Program for the Undergraduate Program and the Law Study Program for the Doctoral Program at the Faculty of Law at the Islamic University of Indonesia. The second speaker Inas Syahira, S.H., M.H. who is one of the graduates of the Law Study Program Undergraduate International Program at the Faculty of Law of the Islamic University of Indonesia and the third resource person from DPKA UII (Directorate of Development and Career Alumni of the Indonesian Islamic University Alumni namely Lifthya Ahadiyati Akmala, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist.

Deputy Dean for Religion, Student Affairs, and Alumni of the UII Faculty of Law, Drs. Agus Triyanta, M.A., M.H., Ph.D. conveyed a message in his remarks “We hope that prospective graduates and female graduates will get their initial expectations when they enter the Faculty of Law at the Indonesian Islamic University. Hopefully the expectations at the beginning will still be achieved and achieved. We also hope that you will get good experiences that can be a provision when you enter the world of work or who will continue into the world of education.”

As for the message from Dr. Busyo Muqoddas, S.H., M.Hum. who conveyed “Alumni’s Humanitarian Mission to Change the Country, there are three things, namely first, Alumni must have knowledge, scholarly status, contain humanitarian missions, and justice. Second, knowledge and scholarship are not intended to accumulate wealth by thinking and acting to prostitute knowledge (Intellectual Prostitution). Third, UII Alumni must have a mission with knowledge to become leaders of change who are full of God’s grace and love.”

Then the Head of the Law Study Program for the Undergraduate Program also said that “this event is very important to provide inspiration to graduates of the Law Study Program for the Undergraduate Program at the Faculty of Law, Indonesian Islamic University.” This event was held in the Auditorium Room 4th Floor and ended with a question and answer session and group photos.

On Thursday 25 May 2023 the Law Study Program Undergraduate Program International Program held a socialization of international activities for students, which included the Joint Degree Program and Credit Transfer programs. The Credit Transfer Program itself is held at the International Ibrahim of Laws Lectures at the Islamic University of Malaysia. Meanwhile, the Join Degree is held at the Department of Human Creative Youngsan University and Coventry University.

This socialization activity was attended by students who had the desire to take part in international activities for students and presented two speakers, namely the Head of the Legal Study Program Undergraduate Program Dodik Setiawan Nur Herinyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D. and the Head of International Affairs at Youngsan University namely Prof. Ji Hyun Park.

In her introduction Dr. Aroma Elmina Martha, S.H., M.H. as the Secretary of the Legal Studies Study Program for the International Undergraduate Program said that “it is good for students to be able to take part in this program because this program is very good and students can have international experience. In addition, students will get comparative knowledge not only in Indonesia but also in England, Malaysia and also in South Korea.”

The guest speaker for the event was the Head of the Legal Study Program Undergraduate Program Dodik Setiawan Nur Herinyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D. explained that the Joint degree and credit transfer programs have now opened and will close at the end of May 2023 and students who have registered will later be selected for both administrative selection and interview selection. Students are expected to register immediately and if there are difficulties in order to contact the Study Program as soon as possible. So far the Joint Degree and Credit Transfer programs have been going well and it is hoped that many students will take part in this international activity.”

Then Prof. Jihyun Park also explained that “there are many scholarship offers in South Korea, if students have a high TOEFL score and are able to maintain a GPA, they will be given a scholarship discount. The tuition fee cut is up to 50% at Youngsan University and the advantage is for students who take part in the transfer credit program, they do not need to pay tuition fees at Youngsan University, but still pay tuition fees at the Islamic University of Indonesia.”

Undergraduate Study Program In Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia in collaboration with the Judicial Commission of the Republic of Indonesia held an opening activity for the Legal Ethics Clinic on Thursday, 25 May 2023. This program was opened and initiated by the Commissioner of the Judicial Commission Binziad Kadafi, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. .d. and from the Faculty of Law of the Universitas Islam Indonesia by Prof. Dr. Budi Agus Riswandi, S.H., M.Hum. and took place on the 3rd floor stage room, Faculty of Law, Indonesian Islamic University.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Universitas Islam Indonesia made a statement in his remarks that “25 students participated in this activity and the plan is for these students to take part in a two-week research training program and it is hoped that students will be able to fully understand theory and practice in the field of law.”

Then the Head of the Undergraduate Study Program In Law, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D. said in his remarks that “Regarding the clinic at this time of law, we are very grateful to the Judicial Commission which has provided an opportunity for students of the Faculty of Law at Universitas Islam Indonesia to take part in legal education which later these students will also take part in the National Jamboree. It is hoped that when students can take part in this intensively well, students will get a conversion of 4 credits for the Community Advocacy course and Apprenticeship course.”

The Legal Ethics Clinic’s materials include studies related to the role of the Judicial Commission and the Independence of Judges and the basic concepts of Ethics and Professional Ethics. In addition, there is also a Laboratory program related to PMKH handling simulations, making campaign tools, and training in article writing. Another program is Community Service which has PMKH prevention campaign indicators through social media, article writing, and observation of the court security system.

Thursday 25 May 2023 SAIL (Student Associate of International Law) in collaboration with the Law Study Program Undergraduate Program at the Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia held a Rehearsal  for the International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition, Moot Court Competition 2023 which will later be attended by several Law Study Program students from the Law Faculty of the Islamic University of Indonesia as follows: Elvania Rachmansya Ratu Ardiananta, Alif Aufa Rachman, Balogun Faidat Temitope, Dzaki Jenevoa Kartika, Ahmad Kushay and Yusrina Majida Rahma. With a supervisor namely Nur Gemilang Mahardika, S.H., LL.M.

Then the Rehearsal was also attended by Judges, namely Christopher Cason, J.D., LL.M., Deputy Dean for Religion, Student Affairs, and Alumni of the Faculty of Law of the Islamic University of Indonesia, namely Drs. Agus Triyanta, M.A., M.H., Ph.D., Head of the Undergraduate Law Study program, namely Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D. besides that there is also Prof. dr. Sri Wartini, M.H., Ph.D. and Nur Gemilang Mahardika, S.H., LL.M.

The Head of the Undergraduate Law Study program, namely Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D said that “in this Rehearsal it is expected that students can prepare well for the competition that will be held in the Netherlands and students from Rehearsal this time have shown pretty good progress. It is hoped that in the future it will be able to bring the good name of the Faculty of Law at the Islamic University of Indonesia in the arena of moot court competition at the international level.”

Apart from the leadership, the rehearsal was also attended by students and all members of the SAIL (Student Associate of International Law) Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia. After the rehearsal was over, the lecturers who were present gave comments regarding the performance of the participants and used them as material for improvement during the competition in the Netherlands later.

“Fun!” Is one word spoken by all foreign students who take part in the 2023 Cultural Event organized by the International Program Undergraduate Study Program in Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia from Friday to Saturday April 7-8 2023 at D’Omah Hotel, Tembi Village tourist area, Bantul.

There were four foreign students who took part in this activity including: Meeran Hamid from Pakistan, Balogun Faidat Temitope from Nigeria, Anna Louise Williams and Thomas Matthias Kubler Shaw from Australia. In this program, students take part in various cultural programs to learn more about not only Yogyakarta culture but also matters relating to the influence of Islam on Yogyakarta culture.

The Cultural Event began with a presentation session by Christopher M. Cason, JD., LL.M. as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia with the title “Understanding Islam: American Perspective” in this session foreign students shared stories about how Islam is known in their country and how the experience of being a minority in Indonesia. While the second presentation session was delivered by Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D. as Head of the Undergraduate Study Program in Law under theme “Islam and Yogyakarta’s Culture” among his explanations regarding the philosophy of the imaginary line connecting Mount Merapi, the Yogyakarta Palace, the Krapyak Stage and Parangtritis Beach. The activity was continued by playing traditional games, one of which was Dakon while going around doing sightseeing to see the atmosphere of the village in Tembi and nearby areas such as Parangtritis beach.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Universitas Islam Indonesia, Prof. Budi Agus Riswandi, S.H., M.Hum. expressed gratitude and appreciation for the implementation of this Cultural Event. “I am very grateful to the foreign students at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia who have entrusted them to study at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia, both Part Time Study and Full Time Study. I hope students can gain experience and knowledge while studying in Yogyakarta and at UII. Head of Undergraduate Study Program in Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D. stated that this Cultural Event will be held starting this year as well as a Pilot Project because the Undergraduate Study Program in Law will accept approximately 20 to 30 foreign students in the odd semesters of the 2023/2024 academic year. This Cultural Event is not only for students to learn lessons on campus but it is hoped that students can understand the cultural diversity that exists in Indonesia so that students are able to get to know the theory of Islamic values and universal values.

“The Yogyakarta culture that we introduce to students is very intact with introductions starting from a geographical perspective to detailed aspects related to Yogyakarta culture such as cultural architecture, the structure of the Mataram kingdom, and students also take part in batik training. Students are also expected to be able to understand how the influence of Islam is in Yogyakarta and what kind of Islamic values can be found at Universitas Islam Indonesia which are universal and can later be picked up and developed when they return to their respective countries.” said the Head Head of Undergraduate Study Program in Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia closed the coverage session.
