Three Students of the Faculty of Law of the Islamic University of Indonesia successfully passed to take part in the Global Collaboration Program organized by the University of Youngsan, South Korea. This program will be carried out from 3 to 18 January 2020. For approximately 2 weeks participants from various parts of the world will participate in activities such as South Korean language training, Introduction to Law and Culture of South Korea, and visits to several important places in Busan.
“This program is an example of the realization of the agreement between the Indonesian Islamic University and Youngsan University. We hope students can take knowledge and experience while participating in activities. In addition, program participants are also expected to pass on their knowledge and experience to other students after returning to Indonesia. ” Budi Agus Riswandi, S.H., M.Hum, Chair of the Faculty of Law Study Program at the Faculty of Law UII.
The collaboration between the Faculty of Law of UII and Youngsan University is very intensive. Currently there are still 5 (five) UII Law Faculty students who are still taking the Credit Transfer Program for 1 (one) semester at Youngsan University. In 2018, 1 (one) UII Law Faculty student also joined the Summer Course. “This program can not only be participated by International Program Students, but regular program students can also participate,” said Dr. Abdul Jamil, S.H., M.H. The Dean of the Faculty of Law of UII when closing the release ceremony.
The release ceremony for students who participated in the Global Collaboration Program 2020 in Busan South Korea took place solemnly. The event took place on December 27, 2019 in the Multipurpose Room attended by students, leaders and representatives of division heads within the Faculty of Law of UII.
Some Efforts to protect minority rights are politically good, social, culture and economy and religious freedom which are non-derogable rights must indeed be voiced because it is supposed to be any sovereign state in the world obliged to provide careful protection in accordance with the aims and objectives of the UN Charter. And Indonesia with the 1945 Constitution article 27.28,29,30, and 31 must also participate in the fight for human rights.
In order to having deep discussion for above problem, The Doctoral Program in Law, the Master Program in Law and Master Program in Notarial Law Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia held an International Conference entitled “Ethnic Minority Groups in Majority Ethnic Countries”. Located in the Auditorium of the Endowment Agency of the Islamic University of Indonesia on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. Here the Conference presented several speakers such as Prof. Samina Yasmeen, Director and Founder of UWA’s Center for Muslim States and Societies Australia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rohaida Nordin, from the Malaysian National University, Assoc Prof. Dr. Muhammadzakee Cheha from Fatoni University Thailand, and Prof. Jawahir Thontowi, S.H., Ph.D, Nandang Sutrisno, S.H., LL.M., M.Hum., Ph.D. and Drs. Agus Triyanta, M.A., M.H., Ph.D, from Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia.
Also present for opening session, Deputy Chancellor of the Field of Networking and Entrepreneurship of the Indonesian Islamic University Ir. Wiryono Raharjo, M.Arch., Ph.D. Meanwhile it acts as Dr.’s speaker keynote. Sulaiman Syarif. The Secretary General of Law and International Treaties of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia expressed deep concern over the issues of minority communities, especially those living in non-Muslim countries.
Dean Faculty of Law UII Dr. Abdul Jamil, S.H., M.H who was then present and was asked by several media information said that at present many issues are rife about the unpleasant treatment received by minority Muslims from his country. Among these, ethnic Uighur Muslims in China, Rohing in Myanmar, and Muslims in Pathani Thailand. “They need help from the international world.”Avul Jamil’s light. Therefore this International conference is carried out one of which aims to find a solution about the problem above.
Prof. Jawahir Thontowi, S.H., Ph.D. stated that countries that failed to carry out their duties in providing protection, recognition, and respect for human rights especially minority groups need to get attention from the international community, even punishment of either a blockade or an embargo as the Israeli Government’s treatment of the Palestinian people.
Prof. Jawahir urged the UN Human Rights Commission to take appropriate and convincing action to countries that clearly violated the Genocide Convention or violations of humanitarian crimes, urged the Indonesian government to provide assistance to the Uighur tribal community in Xinjiang to be given the right to freedom in carrying out and amending Islamic teachings. Urge Muslim States to help and encourage unity to voice human rights enforcement and judicial proceedings in the International Criminal Court. As well as several other statements related to this.
The Faculty of Law of the Universitas Islam Indonesia (FH UII) held a Workshop on Digital Literacies in Legal Education on Monday (December 2nd, 2019). The Workshop program was filled by speakers from FH UII internally an At least, this workshop was attended by around 50 participants who were lecturers, teaching staff, academic staff, and students in the Faculty of Law UII.d also invited professors from the United States.
Through the workshop, FH UII wanted to open up insights to its academic staff to be able to exploit the potential of digital literacy. The workshop was filled by two speakers: Assoc. Prof. Jayne Lammers, Ph.D. and Abdurrahman Al-Faqiih, S.H., M.A., L.LM.
The first speaker, Assoc. Prof. Jayne Lammers, Ph.D. originating from the United States explained, the development of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 has brought great changes in the world of education. The pattern of students and young people has changed, from previously doing literacy studies through books, now turning to digital literacy. The intended digital literacy is very broad, covering the internet and social media. But, according to Jayne Lammers, the majority of people use digital technology for entertainment purposes only.
Jayne Lammers shows one of the results of his research on digital literacies. The research included the case of a child named Eve. Based on Jayne’s findings, a child named Eve who has a hobby of playing the game ‘The Sims’ experienced a period of anxiety after graduating from high school. Eve didn’t know what to do after high school. While doing her hobby playing the game ‘The Sims’, Eve began to make a story based on the simulation game. He also wrote the story on his blog page. While writing, Eve also learned image editing techniques, coding, and several other technologies to support the story she made. In addition, in the end, Eve was known as a professional writer by utilizing the technology she learned.
Jayne Lammers also explained the concept of Personal Learning Network (PLN). Based on this concept, students should be able to utilize social media to improve their pre-profession world. Using PLN, students can follow professional accounts and start self-branding.
The second speaker, Abdurahman, puts more emphasis on the use of digital sources in legal research. According to Abdurahman, UII has facilitated many conveniences in digital literacy. “The question is whether you already know?” Abdurahman said.

The Faculty of Law of the Universitas Islam Indonesia (FH UII) once again held international scale activities. This time, FH UII invited Professor Andrew Mitchell from the University of Melbourne, to come to Yogyakarta.
Prof. Andrew came at the invitation of FH UII. According to the Secretary of the International Undergraduate Program, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D., Prof. Andrew was invited as one of the visiting professor programs organized by FH UII. “This program is one of the internationalization steps undertaken by the Law Faculty”, said Dodik Setiawan.
Prof. Andrew visited FH UII for three days. In accordance with the invitation of FH UII, Prof. Andrew shared his knowledge in several activities with the UII academic community. On Tuesday (11-11-2019), Prof. Andrew shared his knowledge with post-graduate students of FH UII in the General Lecture on International Trade Law. The event was held at the FH UII Postgraduate Campus, Jalan Cik Ditiro Number 1, Yogyakarta. At the event, Prof. Andrew investigated international trade law.
On Wednesday (11-11-2019), an International Seminar was held with Prof. Andrew as one of the speakers. Besides Prof. Andrew, the seminar was also filled by Christopher Cason, JD., FH UII’s foreign lecturer from the United States, and Nandang Sutrisno, S.H., LL.M., M.Hum., Ph.D., an international law expert of FH UII. The International Seminar was attended by at least 150 participants from various groups.
After the International Seminar, Prof. Andrew also shared his knowledge with the students of the Moot Court Faculty of Law UII. Prof. Mitchell, who is also the coach of the moot court team at the Law School of the University of Melbourne, shares tricks before and after the race.
Besides sharing his experiences and knowledge, Prof. Andrew was also invited to meet with the leaders of FH UII. At the meeting, FH UII hoped to establish more collaboration with the University of Melbourne. Prof. Andrew said he was happy to visit Indonesia at the invitation of FH UII. “It’s nice to be here,” he said.
Enviromental law Conference 2019 is an annual Routine activity held by Civil Law Department of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Law (AIKOL) of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), This event was organized directly by a professor of environmental law who is also a lecturer in environmental law in AIKOL, this event aims to increase student awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and also to increase student awareness of the environment, this event focuses on the topic Sustainable Development Goals. Each speaker explained several aspects of the SDGs and also some of the applications and strategies to achieve the SDGs themselves, this event was opened by the Dean of AIKOL, Prof. Dr. Farid Sufian, he also shared some material related to SDGs, in this event the one who acted as the keynote speaker was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maizatun Mustafa, who is an expert and consultant in the field of environmental law.
The conference also discussed the role of students and universities in achieving some of the goals of the SDGs, this conference was attended by six speakers from three countries, of which two were from Indonesia, two were from Malaysia, and 2 were from Maldives.
First three speaker focused more on conciliation about how each country of each speaker reached the SDGs which was related to strategy, commitment and so on, final three speakers focused on the role of students and universities in the Sustainable Development Goals, Yuwan Zaghlul Ismail as Universitas Islam Indonesia representative was assigned to be the first speaker which Yuwan successfully presented it titled Indonesia Roadmap on SDGs and Environmental Targets. Which here, Yuwan at the same time became a representative of Indonesia in explaining some important issues related to Indonesia’s strategy, and also Indonesia’s commitment to achieving SDGS itself, Yuwan who is also participating in the credit transfer program was successfuly became a representative of the Universitas Islam Indonesia in the annual conference of environmental law, Yuwan is committed to continuing to be able to carry the fragrant Universitas Islam Indonesia name on the world stage. Demonstrating a true commitment to the International Program’s goal of, “Nurturing Innovative Global Leaders,” a group of lecturers in the Law Faculty’s international program contributed to a successful workshop on creating a truly international environment for legal study.
The workshop, titled, “The Global Classroom,” challenged these lecturers to not only focus using the English language as the language of instruction, but to also expand their repertoire of pedagogy. The seminar focused on the unique aspects of legal English as well as better integrating problem-based and case study instruction into their curriculum. The group practiced the Socratic method of instruction, which uses questions to elicit critical thinking and interaction with students. The participants in the workshop recognized the importance of nurturing these skills as the next generation faces the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and understands the importance of the IRAC legal analysis.
On the second day of the workshop, each participating lecturer showcased their skills by offering a microteaching session based on their particular area of law. The microteaching sessions, exclusively in English were impressive and demonstrated the groups commitment to the state goal of a truly international learning environment.
The Faculty of Law of the Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) in collaboration with the Universitas Muhammadiya Magelang (UM Magelang) held an International Symposium entitled The 1st Borobudur International Symposium 2019 (BIS 2019), on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. Located in the Ballroom of the Grand Artos Hotel & Convention, Magelang, the Symposium is divided into two sub, namely the 1st Borobudur International Symposium on Applied Sciences and Engineering (1st BIS ASE) and 1st Borobudur International Symposium on Humanities, Economics, and Social Sciences (1st BIS HESS ).
Faculty of Law UII became one of the co-hosts that organizing BIS 2019. According to the Secretary of the International Undergraduate Program of Faculty of Law UII, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, SH., MH., LL.M., Ph.D., the form of cooperation between UII and UM Magelang is as the organizer of BIS 2019. Faculty of Law UII who co-hosted the organizing of BIS 2019 was mentioned in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
According to Dodik Setiawan, Faculty of Law UII cooperated with UM Magelang regarding two things. First FH UII wants to increase the number of lecturer publications at the international level. Through BIS 2019, especially the 1st BIS HESS, submitting papers will later be published in proceedings indexed with Web of Science. Secondly, this cooperation is expected to be one of the steps to increase the cooperation network between Faculty of Law UII and other universities throughout Indonesia. “Adding networks of cooperation with domestic universities in Indonesia,” said Dodik Setiawan.
Faculty of Law UII sent six papers to participate in BIS 2019. The six papers sent are manifestations of ideas from civitas academics and lecturers at the Faculty of Law UII. The papers and presenter who participated were Dr. Budi Agus Riswandi, SH., MH., Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, SH., MH., LL.M., Ph.D., Prof. Ni’matul Huda, SH., M.Hum., Mahrus Ali, SH., MH., Bagya Agung Prabowo, SH., MH., Ph.D., and Siti Ruhama Mardhatillah, SH., MH.
BIS 2019 was held in three parts of the event. First is the first round table session. Second is the opening session, which was followed by an international seminar. Then the last is the second round table session.

The keynote speaker at the international seminar was Prof. Tony Lucey, Ph.D. from Curtin University, Australia, Rajesh Ranolia, B.Com., MBA from the National Institute of Information Technology, India, and Prof. Ts DR. Noreffendy Tamaldin from Universiti Teknik Malaysia Malaysia Melaka, Malaysia.
The event was attended by hundreds of speakers from various tertiary institutions. The speakers were divided into several small groups and occupied a round table. The concept of a round table is fairly new. Speakers present and respond to one another’s papers led by a moderator.
The Doctoral School has just received an A accreditation from BAN-PT, the accreditation institution under Ministry of Education, Research, and Tecnology, Indonesia. The Doctoral Study Program in Law has received the highest score of 370 points. Congratulations.
