Trans-national Organised Crimes (TOC) such as corruption, money laundering, bribery, people smuggling, are nontraditional threats to security. Corruption has taken on an international dimension in recent years – it is common for corruptors to seek safe haven in foreign countries or to launder their corrupted money. This is where mutual legal assistance (MLA) on asset recover comes into play, so that states may repatriate their stolen assets. Hence, this brief paper analyses to problems: the importance of MLA in criminal matters; and its challenges for Indonesia.
