We hereby announce that all academic services of the International Program of Undergraduate Study Program in Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia will be effectively to be moved and served in the New Building of the Faculty of Law, Integrated Campus, Universitas Islam Indonesia, Kaliurang street KM 14.5, Sleman, Yogyakarta start from February 1, 2022.
We also inform you that on January 25 – 28, 2022 there will be a slight disruption and delay in academic services within the International Program, Undergraduate Study Program in Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia, due to the process of moving to the new office.

Erwin Moeslimin Doctoral Promotion Open Examination Session attended by 4 State Officials

KALIURANG (UII News) – The dissertation entitled “Election Dispute Resolution Legal Politics: Initiating the Establishment of an Election Court in Indonesia” succeeded in leading Rayendra Erwin Moeslimin Singaruju, SH, MH, to defend his dissertation by earning a Doctoral Program in Law Faculty of Law Universitas Islam Indonesia.

The open examination was also attended by 2 Heads of State High Institutions, namely the head of  Supreme Court (MA) RI Prof. Dr. H. M. Syarifuddin, S.H., M.H, and the Chairman of the Indonesian Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) Dr. Agung Firman Sampurna, CSFA., CFrA., CGCAE., QGIA. As well as 2 Ministers, namely the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Prof. Dr. H. Mohammad Mahfud Mahmodin, S.H., S.U., M.I.P who also appeared as one of the examiners and the Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) General Police (Purn.) Prof. Drs. H. Muhammad Tito Karnavian, M.A., Ph.D.

The Doctoral Promotion Examination was held on Friday, 4 Jumadil Akhirah 1443 H/7 January 2022 at the Prof. Auditorium. Dr. KH. Kahar Muzakkir. Erwin explained his dissertation on the Election Court in front of the examiners. Namely. Besides Prof. Mahfud MD, the examiner for this doctoral promotion is Prof. Fathul Wahid Ph.D, Rector UII, Prof. Dr. Ni’matul Huda SH MH (Promoter), Prof. Jawahir Thantowi, P.hD (Co-Promoter), Prof. Dr. Mahfud MD (Examiner), Prof. Amzulian Rifai, P.hD (Examiner), Pro. Dr. Muhammad Fauzan (Examiner), Prof. Dr. I Gusti Ayu Ketut Rachmi Handayani SH,. MH (Examiner) and Dr. Suparman Marzuki SH MSi was also the examiner.

Furthermore, the dissertation entitled “Legal Politics of Electoral Dispute Resolution: Initiating the Establishment of an Electoral Court in Indonesia” seeks to answer the problem of resolving electoral disputes in Indonesia and the ideal election court in the future. In his presentation, Erwin emphasized that the research results showed that the legal politics of election dispute resolution so far has not been strongly and stable institutionalized in one institution.

“Two judicial power institutions, namely the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court with different character and constitutional mandates, have alternated as places for resolving election disputes, he said. He again explained that the different procedures and decisions of the two often contradict each other and create legal uncertainty and ultimately do not give a sense of justice. Therefore, according to Erwin, in the future an election court institution is needed with a special mandate to adjudicate election disputes which are formed based on the orders of the Election Law, so that there is legal consistency, legal certainty and fairness in the resolution of election disputes,” said Erwin, who is also a former member of the DPR RI.

The International Virtual Teaching Collaboration Program 2021

International Program The Law Study Program, Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia organizes an international program that will take place between November 23 – December 7, 2021. Program tersebut mengusung nama Virtual Teaching Collaboration Program (VTCP) 2021 dengan tema “Law and The Proliferation of Big Data” yang diselenggarakan berkolaborasi dengan University Malaysia (IIUM) dan Youngsan University of South Korea (YSU). Starting from the first meeting, namely the opening by the Dean of the Faculty of Law UII, Abdul Jamil, S.H., M.H. who gave a keynote address on the introduction of big data, its development, and its impact on individual privacy. After being opened by the Dean, it was followed by a report submitted by the Head of the VTCP Program as well as the Secretary of the International Program for the Undergraduate Law Program, Faculty of Law UII, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H, M.H., LL.M., Ph.D.

At the next meeting, on November 25, 2021, the presentation of material by Assoc. Prof. Sony Zulhuda, LL.B., MCI., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Budi Agus Riswandi, S.H., M.Hum with the theme Big Data and Privacy Law (Indonesian and Malaysian Perspectives). Furthermore, at the third meeting, on November 30, 2021, the presentation of material on Cyber ​​Law in Sharia Perspectives and Big Data under South Korean Law by Dr. Mahyuddin bin Daud and Prof. Jihyun Park. On 2 December,  Christopher Cason, JD., LL.M and Prof. Ida Madieha Abdul Ghani Azmi presented with the topic of Big Data in the United States and Issues on Artificial Intelligence under Malaysian Law. On December 7, 2021, closing as well as a presentation by participants who were represented by several people based on the distribution of discussion groups.

The Virtual Teaching Collaboration Program which lasted for 5 meetings with a duration of approximately 2 hours was enthusiastically welcomed by participants with more than 100 registrants. Each meeting is always equipped with several questioners who at the end of the event are given an award as the best participant. In addition to the best participants, awards were also given to the best presenters who presented the results of their group discussions. Even though it is held online, VTCP can still run well thanks to the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of the participants and organizers.

International Student Colloquium 2021

Wednesday, December 15, 2021, the UII International Law Study Program in collaboration with the Juridical Council of International Program (JCI) held an agenda, namely the International Student Colloquium (ISC) 2021 as a forum for law students to play an active role in improving themselves to become a brave generation, achievement, and character in this era. The agenda raised the theme “The Interface between Law and Technology in the time of Pandemic”, against the backdrop of a significant increase in the use of technology during a pandemic. The agenda began with the opening by reading “Basmalah” together led by the Dean of the Faculty of Law UII, Dr. Abdul Jamil, S.H., M.H. The series of ISC agendas are not just conferences, but there are other agendas, namely the presentation of “call for papers” by participants who have submitted previous papers.

The International Student Colloquium invited outstanding international speakers from South Korea, Hungary, and Indonesia. The material presented was extraordinarily useful and relevant to current technological developments. The first speaker is Prof. Park Jihyun from Youngsan University, South Korea, who talked about how technology can become a necessity for humans in today’s times such as all the conveniences of doing things without the need to meet people in person. For example, we can consult a doctor through the application, but what about the accountability of the data recorded in the application can be discriminated against for its safety. Prof. Dr. Fezer Tamas, Ph.D. delivered the second material. The professor from the School of Law, University of Debrecen, Hungary, discussed data protection and Cybersecurity Law in Hungary. Lastly, the presentation of material by Prof. Dr. Budi Agus Riswandi, SH, M. Hum., talks about the Future of Cyber ​​Law in Indonesia related to the existence of intellectual property rights of each subject.

The implementation of the ISC was received with great enthusiasm from students, considering that there were more than 100 (one hundred) people attending this event and it was followed by questions about the material presented by the speakers. The event was closed with the announcement of a call for paper a championship that was participated by several universities in Indonesia and Malaysia and the awarding of awards to the UII Faculty of Law academic community.

Visiting Professor for Master and Doctor Programs Faculty of Law UII

Master and Doctor Program in Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia held a Visiting Professor agenda which was held on 6 Jumadil Ula 1443H/ 11 December 2021 and 18 Jumadil-Ula 1443 H/ 23 December 2021.

Present as a guest speaker at the Visiting Professor batch 1, Prof. Dr. Anis Pattanaprichawang (Academy of Islamic and Arabic Studies, Princess of Naradhiwas University Thailand) and Dr. Abdul Jamil, S.H., M.H. (FH UII) with the moderator M. Syafei, S.H., M.H with the theme “Role and Challenges of Islamic Family Law in the Time of Pandemic”.

Delivered by Dr. Jamil that in western society modernism contains the notion of thoughts, schools, movements and efforts to change old understandings and customs so that they can be adapted to new opinions and conditions brought about by the development of science and technology. According to him, the renewal of Islamic family law is an effort to adapt Islamic family law to new developments. “It does not mean changing, reducing or adding to the text of the Qur’an and Hadith,” he added.

Furthermore, the Visiting Professor batch II presented Prof. Dr. Farid Sufian bin Shuaib (Professor in Constitutional Law, Ahmad Ibrahim Kuliyyah of Laws International Islamic University of Malaysia0 and Prof. Dr. Ni’matul Huda, SH, M.Hum. (FH UII) with the theme “Bending the Constitution in Managing Life and Politics during the Pandemic?: The Malaysian and Indonesian Experience”.

Prof. Dr. Farid Sufian bin Shuaib said that political dynamics occurred with various changes in prime ministers in Malaysia after the 2018 election. According to him, the issues that developed later were not only health but also related to people’s freedoms, rights to privacy, freedom of speech, freedom of speech, property rights. “There was a proposal to postpone the election, but it was not done and still fill government positions,” he said.

Furthermore, expressed by Prof. Ni’matul that there was a tug-of-war between the central government and local governments in handling COVID-19 in Indonesia. He also added that the implementation of regional head elections at that time also seemed forced, even though according to him, in a pandemic, health matters should be the main thing and be considered by the government.

We are working hard to make this conference an event that everyone will enjoy and remember. There are several important issues and dates that we would like to bring to your attention:

The Events

There will be two events in the International Student Colloquium 2021, namely: The International Conference and the International Paper Competition.

The International Conference is open for lecturers, students, or others, and will be conducted online. There will be magnificent professors from all over the world who will speak about the role and challenges of Cyber Law from their countries’ perspective.

The International Paper Competition is open for undergraduate Law students from any university around the world. The selected papers will be presented at the International Student’s Colloquium and be given several awards, namely: 1st Best Paper, 2nd Best Paper, 3rd Best Paper, and 4th Best Paper. For presentation: 1st Best Presenter, 2nd Best Presenter, and 3rd Best Presenter. For Participant: 1st Best Participant and 2nd Best Participant. Also, other extraordinary awards from the students will be announced during the event

The submission for International Paper will be opened due November 30th, 2021. The submitted papers will be selected through two selection processes. The Preliminary Selection will be conducted to select the 15 best papers from all. The result of the Preliminary Selection will be announced via Instagram @jci_uii and will be contacted by Email and Whatsapp on December 8th, 2021. The selected papers will be presented during the Final Round on December 15th, 2021, which will be conducted online. International Program Faculty of Law UII Held a General Lecture Lecture on Effectiveness in Enforcement of Criminal Sanctions Against Child Violence

The Juridical Council of International Program (JCI) Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 held an actual study with the theme “Effectiveness in Enforcement of Criminal Sanctions against Child Violence” which was presented directly by Mr. Ari Wibowo, S.H.I., S.H.M.H. as Lecturer of Criminal Law, Faculty of Law UII. The activity was carried out online via Zoom and was attended by approximately 50 participants

On the occasion of this study, Mr. Ari Wibowo discussed the legal instruments that regulate the protection of children and how effective the impact of the law is in society. When the criminal threat is too light so that it is considered ineffective, the legislators have tried to amend and strengthen the existing Child Protection Law by adding a weighting of the criminal threat as much as 1/3 of the previous criminal sanction. This change is expected to have a deterrent effect for perpetrators so as not to repeat their actions in the future and provide a warning to the public not to commit similar acts.

He also added about his response to why Indonesia chose chemical castration as a punishment, while overseas chemical castration is a common thing, such as someone who doesn’t want to get married and to reduce their lust, they will go to the doctor for the chemical injection. Whereas in Indonesia it is used as a deterrent effect? In answering this question, according to Mr. Ari Wibowo, the policy of penal punishment in the form of chemical castration as a sanction for action in Perpu No.1 of 2016 has indirectly presented that the purpose of punishment is not merely a means of retaliation or deterrence, but as a form of rehabilitation or recovery. condition of the perpetrator so as not to repeat the same mistake.

Mr. Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H.,M,H.,LL.M.,Ph.D who is the secretary of the law study program for the IP undergraduate program was also present. He admitted that there was a lot of new knowledge gained from the material presentation session. It is hoped that with this theme, participants will be more concerned about the issue of violence against children.

International Program held Gala Ceremony for the JCI and SAIL Board of Managements

The International Program of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia held a Gala Ceremony for the Juridical Council of International Program (JCI) and the Student Association of International Law (SAIL) on Wednesday, (22/09/2021). The event was carried out in a hybrid manner by combining online and offline systems. The Gala Ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the International Undergraduate Study Program in Law of Faculty of Law of the Universitas Islam Indonesia (IP Faculty of Law) as well as JCI and SAIL board of managements.

The event was held to give appreciation to the previous management of the two organizations, as well as the symbolic handover of the organization’s relay to the new management of the organization. Secretary of the IP Faculty of Law, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LLM., Ph.D., in his speech appreciated the continuation of scientific activities that have been held by these two organizations. Dodik Setiawan appreciated JCI for holding several webinars that were relevant to actual legal issues, and to the SAIL that was actively making achievements on competitions at the international level. In addition, Dodik Setiawan also hopes that the next JCI and SAIL management will be able to increase the number of organizational members. Recalling that, human resources are one of the most important things in the implementation of activities.

Dodik Setiawan also reminded the students to keep the spirit in organizing. He also shared how JCI and SAIL have had a long history and outstanding alumni. Dodik Setiawan also shared how he was involved in the founding of JCI and SAIL when he was a student of the IP Faculty of Law. “SAIL is, like my child. JCI is also (like) my own child. So, I hope that all of us can build these organizations to be wider and bring good impact for the academic community of the Faculty of Law of the Universitas Islam Indonesia.”

Dodik Setiawan gave awards to the previous chairman of JCI and SAIL. These awards are given as a form of appreciation from the IP Faculty of Law, for the dedication and hard work of the students in running the organization. The previous chairman of JCI, Akhiruddin Syahputra Lubis, and the President of SAIL, Arief Hasanul Husnan Nasution, received plaques and souvenirs as a symbol of appreciation given by the IP Faculty of Law. In addition, souvenirs were also given for the chairman of JCI for the period 2021-2022, Muhammad Rifaldi Rizmawan. “So that he is not being burned out when carrying out the mandate as the JCI Chairman,” said Dodik Setiawan while symbolically putting a cap on Rifaldi.

According to Rifaldi, the momentum of this Gala Ceremony is the first step for the new JCI management to continue to build good relations and work programs with the faculty. “JCI as a student organization has a significant role in building the ‘horizons’ of IP students. JCI takes the spirit of collaboration and is progressive in welcoming this new period.” (Tazkia)

Second Dose Vaccination for International Program Students

The International Program of the Undergraduate Study Program in Law, Faculty of Law of the Universitas Islam Indonesia collaborate with the Juridical Council of International Program of the Faculty of Law of the Universitas Islam Indonesia (JCI) implementing the second dose vaccination program for 21 students, on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. This event was the follow up on the for the first dose vaccination program that was given on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. This vactionation program was held at Universitas Islam Indonesia Hospital (RS UII) in Bantul.

The Secretary of the International Undergraduate Study Program, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D., accompanying students who were got the second shot. Furthermore, he stated that vaccination is an effort to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic situation which has not shown any sign of ending. He also added that the implementation of the vaccination has become the starting point for the implementation of Faculty’s programs such as the hybrid lecture system that will conduct next semester.

Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D. hopes that the pandemic can end soon so that teaching and learning activities at the Faculty of Law, especially in the International Program, can run normally and can maximize the various programs that have been launched. In addition, he also asked for cooperation from all students who received the second shot to always communicate with each other in case of any Post-Immunization Adverse Events (AEFI) experienced by them.
