IP FH UII students practice English at the Sonobudoyo Museum Yogyakarta

Learning English doesn’t always have to be in the classroom, a variety of learning activities can be carried out in the form of practical activities outside the classroom, as was done by 33 students of the International Program Faculty of Law (IP FH) of Universitas Islam Indonesia Class of 2023, who visited the Sonobudoyo Museum Yogyakarta on Friday, July 12 2024. This activity is an enhancement activity session which is part of the learning program for the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course in the Even semester of T.A. 2023/2024, taught by Cilacs UII (UII Language Center).

This activity is an opportunity for students to practice their English language skills both orally and in writing. According to the teacher who teaches the EAP course, Ardinia Pravinta, M.Pd., in this activity students are guided by the museum to tour, gain insight into culture, the spread of Islam, traditional arts, and technological modernization, all of which are explained in English. “Students are asked to choose their favorite spot and then explain this in the form of writing and a short video. From the results of this activity, students are expected to be able to express ideas and develop them in the form of writing paragraphs or essays, as well as briefly explaining the contents of the writing results through videos or directly during the discussion,” she said.

Furthermore, Head of Division Marketing of Cilacs UII, Aditya Suci, S.Pt., explained that variations in the Cilacs UII learning model through enhancement activity sessions were carried out so that participants did not feel bored, as well as adding new insights with a fun learning concept approach.

Meanwhile, Head of the Undergraduate Study Program In Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Ph.D., said that this program was formed to directly shape the English language skills of IP FH UII students. So it is easy to adapt to the global environment. “The interactive and applicable learning pattern makes students enjoy learning English at IP FH UII,” he explained.

The EAP program itself is part of the English Development Program, which is a series of English language learning for IP FH UII students in semesters 1, 2, 4 and 6 covering basic English learning material up to test preparation such as CEPTTM and IELTSTM. (adt)
